Pocket Themes : Content over Aesthetic Considerations

A Note to Readers:

I created this page when i first installed this software. Having had in my possession very many Word Press Themes which I acquired quickly and easily with one click via the DownThemAll Firefox Extension (with respect to the Source Web Site Owner, or Target URL Host, a URL harvesting Download Manager such as DownThemAll should be used with care, and in earnest regard to avoiding any exploit of the Site Owner’s Bandwidth), I wanted to have an opportunity to try them out against the background of the rhetorical theme of this web site. I keep this page merely as a convenience for myself, however you may find something useful in the perusal of my remarks on the (quite incomplete) list below

Below is a (partial) listing of the themes currently installed for the Novice Notes WordPress Web Log Software.

Most of these themes were available prior to the release of the software version of WordPress v.2.x. (so we might assume that there are probably certain, most likely insignificant, structural, functional, or stylistic elements available to a v.2.x skin which of course are not present in these)

Note the heirarchy, decending from my strongest personal affinity for a theme, gradually descending to list those that seem as if they wouldn’t go w/ the content of this ‘bLog.

Anyday:

  • Gespaa†† theme – Two Columns 2.0 (very awesome Theme!, particularly cool way of describing the time-of-posting. one of my faves ever!)
  • Blueberry Boat
  • WordPress Basic Blue by Javier Cabrera – (much like Kubrick but “for new(?) users”)
  • Be Nice 1.0
  • Imhotep 1.00
  • ONEF 1.0
  • Clean Blue

Interesting Possibilities

  • Fresh Bananas
  • Hyperminimalist

Well Done – Let’s Try…:

  • MinimaPlus
  • narnia – very sophisticated-looking, and attractive smaller width
  • Akua 2.04
  • Black-LetterHead 1.0 – nice use of serif font. if i wasn’t so sick of “silver” on black as in ADI, i might give ‘er a whirl… still might maybe.

Take it or Leave it:

  • Elvgren – (here links to theme author’s site) – extraordinarily well done theme, but just not my tastes really– reminds me of a CMS portal or something – this theme has a “sister” theme w/ thematic artwork, which i do enjoy a bit better than the plain Elvgren
  • Almodovar 0.7 – Certainly Interesting — Actually might be perfect, but very little “character”, although much like a real pocket book
  • Almost Spring 1.0 – Very Neat and Clean
  • A New Spring 1.0 – similar to above – don’t like bullets, but nearly wanted it

Could go at any Time:
(meaning, if chosen, i am likely to change my mind quite readily)

  • akhdian 1.1 – “doom II” – nah…
  • Batavia 1.5 1.1 – much too plain. nothing jumps out

Doesn’t Go – Don’t Bother:

  • banana-smoothie – very, very well done– consider customizing because does not go at all
  • Adventure 0.1 (very nice style though!)
  • Aidens Theme 1.0 – just plain crap! (sorta looks like blue, ionic pillar from roman times– that’s the text areas, on black)
  • anarchy 1.1 – although the “Courier” looking font might go well w/ source code, this looks too like a white n black command-line w/ red buttons in a sidebar!
  • And Black Met White 1.0 – White on Black, but decent style – just doesn’t go
  • Blas?© 1.7 – could totally pass for ADI site styles!
